PRIVACY
Private by design.
Oube records and transcribes on your Mac. Here’s exactly what that means, in plain words.
- Recorded and transcribed on your MacAudio never leaves your Mac. Transcription runs locally, and the audio is deleted afterwards unless you choose to keep it.
- Synced only through your iCloudIf iCloud is on, transcripts sync between your Macs in your private iCloud. We can’t see them.
- No account, no trackingNo sign-up, no analytics, no ads, no third-party trackers in the app.
- You decide what goes to AIText reaches Claude, ChatGPT or other apps only when you send it or connect them.
Who we are
Oube is made by NO IDEA OÜ, Sepapaja tn 6, 15551 Tallinn, Estonia (VAT EE102573422). We are the controller for the little personal data we handle, mainly support emails. Contact us at hi@oube.app.
What Oube works with
To do its job, Oube processes the following on your Mac:
- Audio from your microphone and, with your permission, the audio of your calls.
- Transcripts, meeting titles, speaker names you add, and the Markdown files Oube writes to the folder you pick.
- Calendar events, if you allow calendar access, to name meetings and start recording automatically. Oube only reads them.
None of this is sent to us. We have no servers that receive your recordings or transcripts.
Where your data is stored
Recordings and transcripts are stored in Oube’s local database and in the transcript folder you choose. Audio is deleted once a transcript is ready, unless you turn on Keep audio after transcription in Settings. You can delete any recording at any time, which removes its transcript, its audio and its Markdown file.
iCloud sync
If you’re signed in to iCloud, Oube syncs transcripts between your Macs using your private iCloud database, run by Apple. Only you can access it, and we can’t read it. Apple’s privacy policy applies to iCloud. If you’d rather not sync, turn off iCloud for Oube in System Settings › Apple Account › iCloud.
Transcription models
The first time you set up Oube, it downloads open speech recognition models from Hugging Face. That download is the only network request Oube makes on its own. No audio or text is sent with it, and transcription itself runs entirely on your Mac.
Sending transcripts to AI apps
Oube does not send anything to AI services on its own. Text leaves Oube only when you:
- choose Open in Claude or Open in ChatGPT, which opens that app with the transcript filled in, or
- connect an AI app to Oube’s local MCP server, which lets that app read your transcripts when you ask it to.
From that point the AI provider’s own terms and privacy policy apply, under your existing account with them.
What we don’t collect
- No accounts, names or email addresses in the app.
- No analytics, usage tracking or advertising identifiers.
- No third-party crash reporting SDKs.
During the beta, TestFlight may share crash reports, device details and feedback you choose to send with us. Apple handles this under the TestFlight terms, and we use it only to fix bugs.
This website
This site uses no cookies. To count visits and measure page speed we use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights, which don’t identify you or follow you to other sites. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for a short time for security. If you email us, we use your message only to reply and delete it when it’s no longer needed.
Recording other people
Many countries require everyone on a call to agree before it’s recorded. Oube doesn’t join your calls or announce itself, so it’s your responsibility to tell participants and get their consent where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Since your recordings never reach us, most requests are about support emails. Write to us and we’ll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon) or your local authority.
Changes
If we change how Oube handles data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and mention it in the release notes.
